"What is the city but the people?"

"True, The people are the city."

Third Citizen Theatre Company seeks a passionate, playful, and powerful ensemble of actors for City But the People, new plays inspired by Shakespeare and social justice.

This series of new work will be presented as one cohesive evening of theatre performed by the ensemble in a variety of roles. No prior knowledge of Shakespeare is necessary. BIPOC actors, queer actors, and actors of all body types are strongly encouraged to audition.

Auditions will take place in 5-minute slots on Wednesday, November 3 and Thursday, November 4, 7-10pm at the Salem Old Town Hall, 32 Derby Square, Salem, MA 01970. We may consider appointments outside of these times on a case-by-case basis.

Actors should prepare one or more of the following:

  • Monologue side (to be provided ~1 week prior to auditions)

  • Scene side (to be provided ~1 week prior to auditions; a reader will be present in the audition room)

  • A contemporary monologue of your choosing, approximately 1 minute in length

Callbacks will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2-6pm.

All auditioning actors must show proof of vaccination upon check-in. Actors will be required to wear a mask, covering their nose and mouth, at all times within the building. Actors will be invited to unmask while auditioning, but will not be required to do so. The director, stage manager, and all other persons staffing auditions will also be fully vaccinated and wearing masks.

All artists and technicians involved in this production must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Actors, director(s), stage manager(s), and anyone else regularly present at rehearsals must get tested for COVID-19 at least once per week. While TCTC cannot provide tests for our artists, we will do everything we can to help you identify and access free testing. Once all members of the company have been tested for COVID-19 at least once, masking will not be required in rehearsal. Actors will not wear masks in performances.

Audiences must show proof of vaccination at the door, or negative results from a PCR test acquired within the last 48 hours, and will be required to wear a mask at all times while in the building unless actively eating or drinking.

TCTC encourages actors of all ages, genders, races, ethnicities and body types to audition.

TCTC is a non-union company.
